What to Know Before Buying a Toyota RAV4

The RAV4 has been the best-selling SUV in the country for years running, and Toyota dealers have leaned on that harder than almost any other brand. ADM fees of $2,000 to $5,000 over MSRP aren't unusual, and on the RAV4 Prime you can still see waits of 3 to 6 months depending on where you live. Regular RAV4 inventory has gotten better since 2022, but dealers in busy markets still pre-install $900 to $1,400 in accessories on lot cars and treat that number like it's fixed. It isn't.

The XLE and XLE Premium trim names confuse a lot of buyers, which works out well for dealers. They sound nearly identical but the price gap runs about $4,100, and the feature differences are real enough that most people who sit in both end up wanting the Premium. Dealers know this and stock accordingly. If you're trying to keep the budget tighter, find an XLE base first and actually drive it before you let them walk you through the Premium.

ToyotaCare Plus is the extended warranty pitch you'll get at closing. What dealers don't always mention upfront is that standard ToyotaCare, which covers 2 years and 25,000 miles, already comes with every new RAV4 at no charge. The Plus plan extends that, and it's not a bad product, but I've seen the markup on it run $600 to $900 above what you'd pay through other channels. Worth looking up before you sit down in the finance office.
