What to Know Before Buying a Toyota Camry

Toyota stopped selling a non-hybrid Camry after the 2024 model year. Every trim is hybrid now, no exceptions, no gas-only option hiding somewhere on the order sheet. Dealers have been leaning on that change ever since, and not in your favor. I've talked to buyers who paid $1,900 to $2,400 over sticker because the salesperson kept framing it as "basically a new category of car." It isn't. Toyota moved 244,913 Camrys last year. There's no shortage justifying that premium.

Most buyers land somewhere in the XLE, usually $35,300 to $36,100 depending on color and whatever the dealer pre-installed on the lot car. The LE at $28,400 is genuinely fine for a lot of people, but you almost never see it prominently on the floor. Dealers order XLEs and XSEs because the margin is better and they're easier to upsell from. If you want the LE and can't find one locally, a dealer 40 miles out might have three of them sitting there.

The trade-in is where Camry deals go sideways more than anywhere else. Camry buyers tend to hold cars a long time, which means they often walk in with something paid off and worth real money, and they don't always know exactly what that number is. Dealers know this too. Pull a written offer from CarMax or Carvana before you go in. You don't have to sell to either of them, but having a real appraisal in your hand changes what the dealer can say next.
