What to Know Before Buying a Ford F-150

The F-150 trim spread is wider than any other vehicle on the market. An XL starts around $36,200. A Platinum or Limited pushes past $74,900. Same nameplate, same truck, nearly double the price. Dealers use this against buyers constantly. They'll anchor you to the Lariat at $64,700 and make 84 monthly payments feel like a reasonable trade. Run that math: $871 a month times 84 is $73,164 before interest hits.

Raptor and Tremor trims run short on supply most of the time. Dealers know this and mark them up, usually between $3,800 and $11,000 over MSRP. It shows up on the window sticker as "market adjustment" which sounds official and nonnegotiable. It isn't. Late in the model year when new trucks are hitting the lot, that number comes down fast.

Three add-ons dealers push hardest on F-150 buyers: MaxCare (Ford's extended warranty), spray-in bed liner, and paint protection film. MaxCare isn't a bad product, but the dealer markup is steep. Ford sells the same coverage directly, usually cheaper, and you can buy it anytime before your factory warranty expires. The bed liner and paint protection exist almost entirely for dealer gross.
