What to Know Before Buying a Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The trim gap on a Silverado is something most buyers don't realize until they're already in the finance office. A WT (Work Truck) starts around $37,800. A High Country with the options dealers actually stock pushes past $68,400. Dealers prefer to sell off the lot, and what's on the lot is almost always loaded. That's not a coincidence — it's how they protect gross.

The Z71 package is the one most buyers want, and Chevy dealers know it. Availability gets tight on popular configs, which gives dealers cover to add $1,500 to $4,000 in "market adjustment" without much pushback. If you can order your Silverado instead of buying off the lot, you'll usually save that full amount and get exactly the build you want.

GM dealers push three add-ons harder than anything else: OnStar subscription bundles (already included free for a trial period), ceramic coating typically priced at $800 to $1,400 that a detailer applied for $150, and a Protection Package that combines things you didn't ask for. The Max Trailering Package is worth it if you actually tow. Everything else is mostly dealer gross.
